Pricing Data Analyst
Your job will entail using the coding tools at your disposal (e.g. SQL, R, HiveQL, Python, SAS) to proactively identify opportunities to embed new information into the insurance data model and to challenge the status quo by exploring different ways of analysing, presenting and visualising data to drive better business decision making and meet our growth aspirations.
To succeed, you’ll need to work very closely with your Data Team colleagues, the wider Insurance and Pricing communities, and our subject matter experts around the business, building solid relationships across the organisation. By mixing their experiences with your knowledge of the data and your data skills, you’ll have the opportunity to influence behaviour and decisions at all levels of the organisation, from engineers in the field up to our most senior executives.
We need an expert in data. Your data science skill set will be strong (a pre-requisite to enable you to hit the ground running on our brand new Hadoop platform), and we’re also very keen to speak to people who have experience in using market-leading visualisation software such as PowerBI.
Our ideal applicant will not just have well-honed technical expertise, but also be someone who can bring new ways of thinking into our organisation and to help translate complex analysis to less technical audiences. You’ll be able to prepare large datasets from multiple complex sources for analysis but also have the commercial know-how to really separate the key messages from background noise when it comes to the crunch, and to solve problems logically and pragmatically.
The perfect candidate won’t just be a skilled data analyst; they’ll need to be big on collaboration, flexibility, reliability and results, and have the drive to make a difference to the business through the pride they take in their work. As a large insurer, we are particularly keen to hear from those who have had experience of working in this industry on consumer lines products, but we remain very open to consider candidates who are outstanding in all other aspects of the role.
The successful post-holder will hold a BSc/MSc in a numerate discipline (Maths, Statistics, Computer Science, Economics, etc.) and experience of using SQL and other database/Big Data technologies to structure, transform and visualise data.
