Operational Risk Manager

At Nationwide, we want to give each and every customer peace of mind. And one of the ways we can do that is by monitoring and mitigating risk. Joining a small team of senior managers, you’ll oversee all operational risk within an operational area.

About the role
Part of our Member Account Administration team, you’ll ensure we provide outstanding back office support to our customers and retail network, focusing in particular, on our savings products such as ISAs, and Bonds. This is a high profile role – you’ll be working closely with our Head of Savings to deliver the risk agenda as well as influencing managers at all levels across the division. We’ll expect you to identify key risk areas and to put mitigating actions into place. Your role will involve driving and embedding a risk avoidance culture where risk reporting is a positive action and developing and embedding risk governance and frameworks that protect our customers and strengthen our Brand.

About you
You'll already have commercial, Blue Chip risk experience. If you're already working in Financial Services - this may be advantageous but is not essential. The successful candidate will have risk experience, but more importantly, a solid operational background. A fact-based approach to problem-solving is essential, as is real clarity of focus. As part of the Senior Management team you will need to be a self starter who communicates confidently at all levels, calm under pressure, flexible in your approach and able to work in a fast paced, changing environment. You’ll need the ability to engage different people across the department and bring to life the importance of risk in their everyday work. Since the role will involve dividing your time between our main sites in Swindon and Bournemouth, you must also be prepared to travel.
