Description:

Finance Analyst (Risk & Capital Planning)

Nothing stays the same for long here at Nationwide. Staying one step ahead in such a fast moving industry means constantly evolving in line with our customers’ changing needs. And with each change, it’s imperative that we protect our business and minimise the exposure to risk. Which is why your role within Risk Analysis and Capital Planning is so crucial as you’ll carry out detailed forecasting and reliable analysis to support and influence our capital management both now and in the future.

About the role
Motivated by a role that is wide-ranging, still in its infancy and that will give you a view of Nationwide as a whole, you will be responsible for producing, developing and embedding regular capital forecasts for both Regulatory Capital and Economic Capital, across all product areas; it will be down to you to analyse factors such as the economic climate, how this impacts on the risk appetite of our portfolios and then recommend how much capital we should retain in order to minimise risk. The work will support monthly reporting to both Senior Management and to the FSA. Analysing and explaining the forecast outputs will be essential to the role.

Finding creative and productive ways to support both the Group Planning and Stress Testing processes, you’ll liaise across many business areas to ensure that the forecasting methodologies employed are robust and consistent. You’ll also need to review our existing product range, and ensure that they are not open to risk and that they are performing as expected. Building and maintaining strong working relationships with key stakeholders within Finance, Group Strategy & Planning and other departments within Risk Management Division is an important aspect of the role.

About you
You will have a background in Financial Analysis and you’re possibly a qualified Accountant. Either way, you are self motivated and energetic and have developed excellent analytical skills along with the professionalism and confidence that demands credibility. You’re IT literate with strong Excel skills, including an understanding of MACROS. Possessing strong communication skills – both in person and in writing – you can respond in a truly influential way at all levels. Flexible in nature and with a keen eye for detail, you will relish the opportunity to develop innovate solutions and are enthusiastic about shaping this relatively new role. Specific experience in financial modelling or forecasting is an advantage.

About your rewards
We have big ambitions for our business – and high expectations of the people who’ll help us achieve them. In return we’ll offer you plenty of scope for personal development, recognition, a great working environment plus a generous rewards package that includes pension, life assurance, healthcare and bonus scheme.
